"Hello ,my name is Sandra I have lived in Bootle for nearly 25 years,and have seen a lot of changes during this time , nationally and of course locally, we moved here as a small family to give us a more enriched lifestyle, and I believe it certainly has been so far.
There are many issues that arise in our own lives , but also there are issues that may need addressing in a community , just like Bootle, and certain topics are very necessary and important, especially in a smaller community ,where some things could get overlooked or even forgotten, but we also need to be aware of all the positive’s and potential attribute’s that are present and available in this community village of Bootle and further afield, due to the input of talented local people living in, and around our community.
I personally have seen many of these improvements, and beneficial aspects of living in this unique and special rural part of Cumbria, by offering my skills , from my previous working experience and local knowledge, I hope to help and make a contribution to the community by giving back my help where I can, and offer assistance and time, to the village."
"I have been resident in the village since 2022 having moved up to care for my parents. My educational background is Mathematics but my passion is food and I have worked in Catering & Hospitality for most of my life, latterly in Hotel Management. Now in semi retirement I work part time at the Brown Cow.
My mother was born & bred in Millom and my parents retired to Bootle 25 years ago.
I was co opted onto the Parish Council after the Parish meeting and am looking forward to working on the new Community Plan."
"Having joined the Parish Council in 2014 I have been involved in a large variety of projects. Asked to create and chair the flood resilience group following the 2016 flood together with other agencies we have managed to conduct gravel management through the village and deliver over £160k of Upstream Natural flood management features to help mitigate household flooding and maintain A595 access."
Biography
Originally from the West Country, I lived in Reading for three years whilst at university studying English Literature before moving to the North West in 2005. After completing a second degree in Biomedicine and whilst studying a post graduate teaching qualification, I took a teaching placement in the area. I loved it here so much that I decided to stay! I moved to Hallthwaites in 2015 and then to Bootle in 2017. My background is in Education and I have taught in various educational settings including in sixth form, secondary, special and primary schools. I have taught in a couple of primary schools in the area. When not teaching, I work as a Community Support Worker, working with adults with learning disabilities.
Roles within the Community
I am a registered Shared Lives Carer. When not in my Community Support Worker role, I still work in the Domiciliary Care sector as a volunteer, providing help and support to those within Adult Social Care, acting as an advocate, promoting people’s rights and helping individuals to maintain their independence.
I enjoyed a brief spell as a Safeguarding Officer for the Black Combe churches of St Michael and All Angels, St John’s, Whicham St Mary’s and
Whitbeck St Mary’s.I am proud to be a member of Bootle WI.
Community Interests
I strongly value our fantastic community here in Bootle and believe that along with maintaining and enhancing our existing facilities it is also important to protect and promote our wonderful natural environment. I would like to see our parish continue to flourish by improving opportunities and facilities for all sections of the community. I take my role as a councillor extremely seriously, listening to and acting upon the concerns of residents. I intend to support any developments that result from the Community Plan and feel honoured to have the opportunity to assist in bringing residents wishes.
"Before coming to Bootle I lived in Broughton. I went to Coniston school and College in Barrow. I moved to London to work for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in the Diplomatic Service for 17 years. I did posts in London and five overseas postings. Although travelling and enjoying city life, I appreciate the community spirit of living in a village where people pull together and look after each other.
I have lived in Bootle for 10 years. I joined the Parish Council to hopefully make a difference to a small rural village which has plenty to offer. I am a member of Bootle Fitness and Bootle Women’s Institute (WI). I have helped get friends together to litter-pick the local roads to help Bootle in Bloom.
I have a keen interest in road running, fell running and long distance walking (socially and competitively). Making use of the beautiful countryside and fells surrounding Bootle."
